Flower / Fruit: Dull white; small; blooms late March to April. Vivid, bright red berries. Soil:  Well-drained, moist, fertile, humus rich; slightly acidic; very adaptable to many soil types
Foliage:  Alternate, simple, oblong to rectangular, single spined; dark green leaves with yellow-green underside. Light: Full sun; tolerates partial shade
Bark:   Smooth, gray; showy when limbed up Pruning: Prune to develop shape, density and to control size; tolerant of severe pruning; best to prune late Winter to early Spring before new growth emerges; avoid Fall pruning
  Uses: Screen, mass or group planting; hedges
